Framed Figures

Framed Figures 🖼️

“Framed Figures” is a series of spot illustrations published in the April 7, 2025 issue of The New Yorker.

The series explores how figures can interact with frames rather than merely remaining within them. The idea originated from observing how a figure often appears two-dimensional when contained within a frame, yet three-dimensional when it moves beyond it. And I found it interesting to play with this transition by creating impossible spatial relationships between two-dimensional figures, frames, and three-dimensional figures — which defy physical logic but become possible through drawing.
