The cover for The Picture of Dorian Gray uses light and atmosphere to evoke the novel’s celebration of beauty. Dorian’s facial features are intentionally blurred, leaving his beauty open to the viewer’s imagination. A violet palette suggests his sexuality and seductiveness. The cracks, suggesting his corruption, belong to the surface of the picture rather than the face itself and extend across the title.
